I’m not gonna lie, I am very excited. Tomorrow I am launching the brand new njfilmcore.com. I am honestly very thrilled about it because of the internet show I am doing. The show is appropriately titled “NJFILMCORE THE SHOW” and this program features everything that I always wanted to do. I talk about music/bands that I love and believe in, I feature brand new njfilmcore short movies, I give away free stuff, etc. Episode number one comes out tomorrow. Get energized.
I am going to do a new 15 minute episode every week. 15 minutes?!?! Yes, 15 minutes. I am well aware of all of the “research” stating that “viewers online start to drop off after the 2 minute mark with internet movie content blah blah blah blah.” Here is the thing, I don’t care. That might sound really punk rock but I’m not trying to come off like a rebellious teenager. I truthfully don’t care about the research. I created a program that I love. As long as one person watches it, then I am an extremely happy individual.
This brings me to a story I would like to share. There is this local cable access channel in my area that is awesome. They give anyone and everyone a chance to air whatever kind of original show they want, as long as they are residents of the county. I have seen so many shows on the channel but one that sticks out in my head the most was of a 75 year old man talking for 30 minutes straight about gardening. The show was one straight and continuous camera shot on the gentleman. He spoke with zest about different methods of watering your garden, the best times of the year to plant what type of flowers, etc. It was really a great show because you could just tell that the man absolutely loved chatting about this subject. His enthusiasm made the 30 minute show feel like it was 30 seconds.
I used to work the register/front table at a local luncheonette in my town and I had the pleasure of actually running into the “flower man” as he stopped in one time to purchase the newspaper and a cup of coffee. I told him, with a huge smile, that I had seen him on television a few times and that I loved his show. He looked at me in an almost blushing sort of way and said “thank you so much, I thought my wife was the only one that watched that channel.”
We talked and joked around for the next minute or two, shook hands, and he went on his way. As he walked away I thought to myself “there goes a true creator.” Week after week he showed up to the small studio and did what he loved to do; talk about gardening. Never did he think about the ratings, those didn’t matter to him. Never did he think that his show might be too long. That was probably the farthest thing in his mind. He probably thought his wife was the only one watching and that was A-OK with him. One person, that is all that he needed.
I have been living back and forth between Pennsylvania and New Jersey for the last year and a half due to college so I am unable to see this channel as much as I’d like to. I haven’t seen his show in almost 2 years. Maybe I just have bad luck and I keep missing it or maybe he decided to not do it anymore. Regardless that man really left a mark on me that one day. All creators of any type of art should be like this man. Believe in what you do and never question it. Just let it happen and know that somewhere there is at least one person in this world who supports you. Hey who knows, maybe even two.
